| 2007-2008 Debut Performance Recap |
|
As always, Dr. Jensen selected interesting and diverse music to challenge the Northshore and Southshore Sinfonias. Saltarello, Peace Round, Our Children from “Ragtime,” Ode to Joy, and Kabuki Dance demonstrated the string ensemble’s talents and improvement since September. Audience members commended the performers with a well-deserved standing ovation. Next, 74 musicians took the stage as the Northshore and Southshore Philharmonias performed the noble Grand March from “Tannhauser” and the peaceful Shaker hymn Simple Gifts. Intensity filled the auditorium as the Philharmonias completed their performance with the driving rhythms of Aboriginal Rituals. The concert came to a professional conclusion when GNOYO’s most advanced musicians took the stage under the direction of GNOYO's new Artistic Director, Dr. Jean Montes. (Get to know Dr. Montes by viewing GNOYO's interview with the amazing new conductor.) Looking the part in their tuxedos and floor length gowns, the Symphony entertained the audience with The Barber of Seville: Overture and inspired the crowd with the depth and musicality of Sinfonia Piccola. All 160 GNOYO musicians demonstrated a great deal of energy and musical maturity. Congratulations to the musicians for their outstanding performance and thank you to the dedicated volunteers who enabled everything to run smoothly. |
