Music@Madewood presents a Sunday-morning "Coffee Concert," featuring young Louisiana violinist Jenna Sherry, in the ballroom of the National Historic Landmark. The program begins at 10:30 a.m. with refreshments and a tour of the house, followed by the concert at 11:30. Miss Sherry's program consists of three works: the first, from 1720, for solo violin, and two for violin and piano, composed, respectively, at the beginning and end of the nineteenth century: Sonata in g minor by J.S. Bach, BWV 1001, Sonata in g minor by Franz Schubert, Op. 137, D 408 and Poeme by Ernest Chausson. After the concert, Ms Sherry will discuss with young musicians in the audience her experiences in pursuit of a career in classical music performance. This informal conversation reflects Music@Madewood's commitment to young Louisiana musicians. In addition, Madewood Arts Foundation will award Ms Sherry a Future Virtuosos Fellowship Grant to assist her in attending the prestigious third annual Beijing International Music Festival and Academy, held in Beijing, China this August. Selected by noted teacher Kathleen Winkler to participate in the Beijing Festival, Ms Sherry studied violin with Valerie Poullette at Loyola University and currently studies with Mark Kaplan while completing her Bachelor's of Music in Violin Performance at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. A five-time winner of the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra's Concerto Competition, Ms. Sherry, now 21, made her solo debut with the orchestra at age nine and soloed with them in four subsequent years. She has made a guest performance with the Peabody Trio and studied with Peabody pianist Seth Knopp and violinist Violaine Melancon at the Yellow Barn Music Festival's Young Artist Program. She has studied with the Shanghai Quartet, the Pacifica Quartet and the Orion Quartet and has participated in the Salzburg Mozarteum Summer Academy and masterclasses with Ani Kavafian and Elmar Olivera.
Proceeds from admissions -- Suggested donation: Adults, $15; Students and Children, $10, will go to the artist to help cover fees for the Beijing Academy, with excess donated to the Greater New Orleans Youth Orchestra.
