GNOYO is divided into five orchestras which vary in ability level and rehearse in New Orleans and Mandeville, Louisiana (the Northside of Lake Pontchartrain) on a weekly basis from September through May. Students perform at least three formal concerts, with additional community appearances throughout the season.
Sinfonia
The Sinfonia and Northshore Sinfonia build a firm foundation in ensemble playing for string students with two to five years playing experience. The Sinfonia rehearses every Saturday from 1:00-2:30pm at Loyola University New Orleans and the Northshore Sinfonia rehearses every Thursday from 4:15-5:45pm at Mandeville High School.
The Sinfonia and Northshore Sinfonia combine for at least three performances per season.
Philharmonia
The Philharmonia and Northshore Philharmonia, the intermediate level orchestras, are full symphonic orchestras consisting of strings, woodwinds, brass and percussion. These students perform arrangements of traditional orchestral repertoire and new compositions written specifically for intermediate level orchestras. The Philharmonia rehearses every Saturday from 12:15-2:00pm at Loyola University New Orleans and the Northshore Philharmonia rehearses every Thursday from 5:30-7:00pm at Mandeville High School. The Philharmonia and Northshore Philharmonia combine for at least three performances per season.
Symphony
The Symphony is the premiere orchestra, offering advanced musicians the opportunity to learn and perform standard orchestral works. Many Symphony participants go on to study music at the collegiate level. The orchestra rehearses every Saturday from 2:30-4:30pm at Loyola University New Orleans and performs at least three times each season.
