Greater New Orleans Youth Orchestra Summer Festival

What?

A summer music festival featuring two orchestras: a string orchestra for students aged 8 to 12 and a full orchestra for those aged 12 to 19. A staff of professional musicians works with the students, leading daily sectionals and pedagogy classes and playing with the students at all rehearsals and the final performance. (Adult supervision is provided at all times for those participants 14 and under.)

When?

June 2-6, 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM daily.
June 6 will include a performance at 6:30 PM, followed by a Potluck reception from 7:30-8:30 PM.

Fees?

The participation fee: $260.
Early Bird Special - $215 for applications postmarked by April 15, 2008. Financial aid, based on need, is available. Contact the Greater New Orleans Youth Orchestra for additional information.

  • Schedules are tentative and subject to change.
  • Electives may include note reading, chamber music, fiddling/improvisation, etc.
  • Pedagogy may include master classes, chamber music, and repertoire study, and vary according to class and master teacher. 
  • Recitals are held every afternoon from 3:15 - 4:00, featuring our outstanding professional staff and selected student ensembles and soloists. Attendance at recitals is encouraged but not mandatory. (The string and full orchestras perform in a free concert on Friday at 4pm. Family and friends are encouraged to attend.)
